Last game

Well, not the outcome I wanted, but there was no quit in the guys. Did you realize the 5 runs we scored in the 5th inning were all with 2 outs? We got two quick outs, then single, single, single, walk, double. And then those last 2 guys came in on that one wild pitch.

Mickey had some trouble to start the game, pitching wise. But Jerald did a good job in middle relief, and Andy had a nice long stint to keep us in the game. Our defense was a little shaky at times, but Jerald had a couple nice plays at first, and Taylor and Mason had some good throws over from 3rd. Mickey also did his job after pitching, and caught two balls out in right field immediately after coming out. My experience is that Mickey does not have the greatest wheels, but if he can get to it, he is gonna catch it.

On the batting side, we had some feast, and some famine. We sent 28 batters to the plate, we put 18 in play, struck out 8 times and were walked/hit twice. The biggie was Jerald's home run. Always nice to see that.

Ames brought 36 batters to the plate, they put 26 balls in play, struckout 7 times, walked twice (great job by our pitchers in that department), and reached once on a catcher's interference. I wasn't sold on that, but they had runners on 2nd and 3rd, so I was ok with loading them up to get a force anywhere, so I wasn't going to argue/discuss that call with Austin.

I think the real difference was the tremendous outfield play by Ames, they hit their cutoff men, and had quality throws. We have struggled all tournament in that department. I talked to their coach today, and he said they had practiced it a lot, and they executed as well Wednesday night as they had all tournament, so that stinks for us.

He also said they enjoyed the atmosphere, and playing under the lights. I agree, it was a good time, despite taking the L.

If you are a stats hound like me, let me know if you would like your son's batting stats. I can get them to you.

Still pondering the date for a post season party. I went to umpire tonite, so that killed some time I was going to make some calls to arrange that. So stay tuned, and check back here, I will make some overall comments, maybe this weekend when I have some more time.
